 We are seeking to hire a dedicated chief development and marketing officer to help us set direction, lead team members, and ensure the longevity of our organization. The Chief Development and Marketing Officer (CDMO) will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and work with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) as well as the senior management team, governing board, and staff to define the organization's vision and direction. You will be responsible for the overall fundraising, marketing, and communications objectives for Boys and Girls Clubs of Tucson (BGCT), planning and implementing strategies to secure donors and contributions in support of the organization, developing a grant strategy, providing oversight of the fund development program, monitoring development activities, and addressing issues that may hamper growth and success. We are seeking a forward-thinking team leader passionate about organizational growth with cross-functional skills that shine across multiple areas.

The successful applicant should have proven experience as a team leader in fundraising and organizational development, with several years of management experience in a non-profit organization or a similar environment. This includes working with individual and major gifts, bequests, and in-kind support. You must be motivated, have the ability to solve complex problems, and have a passion for philanthropy.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the CEO, staff, and executive board to facilitate short and long-term strategic plans, including the creation of an annual fundraising budget.
  • Manage and lead highly cross functional internal team members, participating in the recruitment of additional Marketing and Development team members as necessary.
  • Identify and address development issues that affect the well-being and efficacy of the organization.
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy and ensure that fund development is executed in keeping with the organization's values, vision, and mission.
  • Participate with the CEO and senior management to plan the organization's fund development course and programs.
  • Manage the operations development function efficiently, and oversee development activities in coordination with staff.
  • Establish a balanced mix of donor sources, including major gift and planned giving, as well as fundraising programs to attract, steward, and retain donors and fundraising volunteers.
  • Establish performance measures, monitor results, and evaluate the efficacy of the fund development program.
  • Steward a grant strategic plan with the grants writer, on a federal, state and national level.
  • Champion relationships with the community for partnerships with other nonprofit organizations, aligning to our mission of youth development.
  • Maintain accountability and ensure compliance with all regulations and laws, as well as the code of ethics for fundraising professionals.
  • Keep abreast of developments in philanthropy and fund development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Work collaboratively with Chief Executive Officer, to identify top major gift prospects from within and outside BGCT network.
  • Support the work of the Capital Campaign Committee in all aspects of campaign fundraising.
  • Lead, research and development of individual strategies for prospects and create a comprehensive stewardship program.
  • Manage a portfolio of campaign prospects, including: the identification, cultivation, solicitation, in-person prospect meetings with existing leadership annual giving prospects and major gift prospects ($10,000+), and stewardship of prospects.
  • Help to secure funding from private and corporate philanthropy.
  • Manage and help to design and implement strategies for various campaign activities, including clubhouse events, donor cultivation and stewardship events, and campaign celebration.
  • Participate in campaign committee meetings and regularly report on portfolio progress.
  • Oversee marketing and communications internally and externally
  • Oversee all clubhouse and BGCT event planning.
  • Oversee development and maintenance of website, social media and external communications.
  • Develop strategic messaging and communications themes and campaigns for a minimum of 3 years
  • Oversee direction of grant submissions, funding and sourcing
  • Work within a traditional structured 9:00am-5:00pm schedule as well as unique evening and weekend hours to attend events, meet with donors and sponsors, and any other essential in-person requirements.
  • Owning and operating a personal vehicle with a valid driver’s license, as well as the ability to drive fleet vehicles is essential.
  • Collaborate on and create marketing materials including PSAs, social media, inbound and outbound marketing strategies, and other advertising media as needed
  • Interact with Board members, donors and subsequent sponsors.
  • Create and execute our 65th anniversary celebration and implement alum campaign.
  • Lead on endowment and foundation relationships.
  • Other appropriate duties, as required.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience within a major gifts officer role
  • Minimum of five years of major gifts fundraising experience
  • Management/supervisory experience
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on collaboration and conflict resolution
  • Superior time-management, multitasking, and organizational skills
  • Superior interpersonal, oral, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Ability to interact with all levels of Board members, personnel, donors
  • Demonstrated success in closing gift solicitations at the five- to seven-figure level
  • Proven ability to effectively develop major gift fundraising and advancement operations best practices
  • Strong influencing and collaboration skills with the credibility and persuasiveness to secure support from diverse sources
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications, organizational and time-management
  • Demonstrated success interfacing with board members and volunteers
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and donor databases
  • Demonstrated ability to meet goals on time and handle multiple tasks and projects
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit and ability to thrive in both small and large group settings
  • Strong team player
  • Able to maintain sensitive and confidential information with integrity

Must meet the requirements to drive for the organization including being at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license with good driving record and consistent access to a motor vehicle with required insurance coverage.  Position does require evenings and weekends and will include travel throughout city with the possibility of travelling statewide or nationally.  May include overnight travel.
