Description


The Digital Communications Manager is responsible for driving our online communications strategies, including the content and design of our outbound digital communications, segmentation of the list based on issue affinity, list acquisition, and retention.  The key goals for the digital program are advocacy action-takers and fundraising. 

The position reports to the director of public relations and collaborates significantly with the director of philanthropy.


DUTIES

  1. Work with the executive and communications team to develop and publish content via email that will engage our audiences and motivate them to take action and to donate and commit to recurring donations.
  2. Develop a thorough statistical understanding of our database and present reports to the executive and communications teams about our supporters, identifying subject areas of interest to influence segmentation.
  3. Strategize and execute list-growth strategies, through paid or earned approaches.
  4. Participate significantly in the development and execution of monthly and quarterly social media plans and related content, including text, visuals and video.

 

  1. Consult with experts in the field of digital marketing and keep apprised of best practices and latest strategies.
  2. Maintain the database by receiving and making necessary changes to individual records.
  3. Ensure that content is on-brand, consistent in style and tone of voice, and optimized for conversion.
  4. Perform frequent testing to gauge digital-marketing effectiveness.
  5. Monitor analytics and recommend changes for improving content and processes.
  6. Ensure cleanliness of database, including performing tasks such as de-duping and records updating.
  7. Support the director of philanthropy with tasks related to donor care.
  8. Participate in the development of advocacy and fundraising goals.


QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience with online email marketing software/CRM (EveryAction preferred) required.
  2. Minimum five years’ experience in online communications, marketing, or related fields.
  3. Experience in a nonprofit advocacy organization, or with an agency that works with advocacy clients, strongly preferred.
  4. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent years of experience) required.
  5. Experience with creating compelling messages that convey key messages and brand themes, using words and powerful imagery, in ways that compel audiences to take action and/or donate.
  6. Proven editorial skills and experience managing editorial schedules and deadlines within ongoing campaigns.
  7. Ability to achieve results with minimal supervision.
  8. Ability to successfully manage key internal and external stakeholders and relationships.
  9. Ability to prioritize, multi-task efficiently and tackle a high volume of marketing initiatives.
  10. Proven ability to continually develop skills related to use of rapidly changing technology and communications best practices.
  11. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  12. Entrepreneurial spirit and skill set
  13. Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic work environment. Ability to act quickly and change course as needed.
  14. Demonstrated success in marketing to and engaging culturally diverse audiences and partners.
  15. Commitment to animal welfare.
