De La Salle Academy Mission Statement

Inspired by the mission of the De La Salle Christian Brothers, De La Salle Academy provides a transformative, life-changing, and accessible Catholic educational experience for promising boys from underserved families in the greater Concord area. De La Salle Academy works with philanthropists and community partners to create an opportunity for students, graduates and families to have access to a quality education that might not otherwise be available to them due to geographic or socioeconomic factors.

Job Summary 

Founded in 2014, De La Salle Academy is continually evolving to meet the needs of its students, families and graduates. Originally established as a division of De La Salle High School, De La Salle Academy currently operates as an independent, Lasallian Catholic middle school, serving 70 boys in 5th - 8th grades, while also accompanying 58 of its graduates and their families. Through an extended school year and extended school day, the faculty and staff partner with students, their families and each other to provide quality and accessible educational opportunities for the students.

Appointed by the Principal/CEO, the Director of Philanthropy is responsible for financial sustainability of the school through the development of strategic fundraising programs and carries out a wide range of administrative tasks. The Director of Philanthropy supports the Principal/CEO’s oversights of the school and its day-to-day workings by ensuring sustainability through stewardship of finances and fundraising efforts. The role requires a close working relationship with the administration, faculty, staff and community partners of De La Salle Academy.



Requirements

Summary of Essential Job Functions 

Although the primary focus of the Director of Philanthropy’s job description is on the sustainability outcomes of the institution, the Director of Philanthropy will perform duties and take on responsibilities delegated by the Principal/CEO, as deemed necessary and appropriate. 

The person in this role must have a critical understanding of essential philanthropic, advancement, and development (PAD) operations including, but not limited to:

Fundraising

  • Implement fundraising activities, including major gifts, annual giving, special projects, fundraising events, and other school-related solicitations;
  • Collaborates with School Administration in the budget-development and implementation process;
  • Develops and delivers grant proposals to foundations and corporations;
  • Works closely with Principal/CEO to provide leadership and management of the all events supporting the goals and objectives of the Development Office;
  • Works with School Administration to assure that staff are prepared to be stewards and representatives of the school at fundraising events;
  • Coordinates the preparation of newsletter publications and social media activity that supports philanthropic efforts;

Administration

  • Work with Principal/CEO on the setting of an annual Development budget and revenue goals and monitor compliance throughout the year;
  • Oversees maintenance and utilization of donor database through Salesforce, and provides relevant reports to Principal/CEO;
  • Supervises any volunteer staff (including AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers) that support the school’s outreach and sustainability efforts;
  • Ensures Development’s compliance with the annual audit in coordination with the Director of Finance;
  • Collaborates with Principal/CEO and other Institutional Leadership Team members to update and create organization policies;

Communications & Community Engagement

  • Represents De La Salle Academy in appropriate matters connected with the De La Salle Christian Brothers, the Diocese of Oakland, and community partners;
  • Participates in appropriate professional development and mission formation activities.
